| Automatic
Detectors |
 |
| Depending
on the premises to protect, Automatic Detectors of different
technologies could be used. These could sense the presence
of smoke, or could check the heat level or the rate of
change of that heat level, or could monitor the sudden
outbreak of flame, or even, could indicate the build up of
dangerous gas. |
| Manual
Call Point |
 |
| Manual call points
could be set at different locations within the premises,
mainly on escape routes, to allow people trigger an alarm,
as soon as they notice a fire outbreak, may be earlier than
the Automatic Detectors would sense. |
| Control
Panels |
 |
|
The Control Panels are the
brain of the systems, as, depending on the combined
information received from the Automatic Detectors or the
Manual Stations, and depending on the time of the day,
trigger the Notification Equipment, or trigger the Smoke
Control systems.
|
| Notification
Equipment |
 |
| The Notification Equipment could be made of
Bells, Beacons, Fire Brigade Dialers, or Emergency Public
Address networks. Depending on the seriousness of the alarm,
the Control Panels would trigger either some or all of the
above equipment. |
| Emergency
Public Address |
 |
| Emergency Public Address networks incorporate
central equipment fully monitored at all times and fitted
with emergency power back-up, installed with fire rated
cables and with monitored special speakers, allowing the
manned or automatic transmission of emergency evacuation
messages. |
| Fireman
Telephone Network |
 |
| During a fire,
electric cables could be cut or electric power could fail,
thus communication between the security room and the floors,
could be impaired : a Firemen Telephone Network would allow
the firemen communicate in order to coordinate their efforts
against the fire. |
| Smoke
Control |
 |
| Smoke Control
equipment would close fire doors, evacuate naturally, or by
power, the smoke from a floor, and pump fresh air into the
relative upper and lower floors, the aim being to limit the
expansion of smoke to safe floors, and to allow the
evacuation of trapped individuals. |
